• Liceu

The Gran Teatre del Liceu is one of the most emblematic buildings on Barcelona’s Ramblas. When it opened in 1847, it was the first temple dedicated to song in Catalonia and Spain. Mainly known for its opera performances, but also for its wide range of other musical genres such as pop and rock, the stars of Catalan, Spanish and international music have appeared on the Liceu’s stage. The current building is the result of a thorough reconstruction following a devastating fire that almost destroyed the building in 1994. This was the second in the great theatre’s history, since it was consumed by flames in 1861, too. Music and fire have marked the life of the Liceu, which over the years has ceased to be the refuge of the Catalan upper classes and has become a more popular theatre with its doors open to all people from around the world.
