• Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia temple is Barcelona’s true symbol. Gaudí's great unfinished work is filled with the essence of Catalan modernism in a majestic building packed with symbolism. The Sagrada Familia has two spectacular facades: The Birth, built by Gaudí himself while still alive, and the facade of The Passion, the more modern one designed by Gaudí with the intention of awakening a feeling of dread and as a symbol of primitiveness and sacrifice. In its original design, there was a third facade called De la Gloria, which in future is to be the main entrance to the temple. But this is still under study, since its construction would require the demolition of the residential buildings located just on the other side of Calle Mallorca. The parts built by Gaudí, the crypt and the Facade of the Birth were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.
