• Santa Maria del Mar

The charm of this magnificent church with its gothic architecture is completely worth the visit to the heart of the Ribera district, but it's also worth wandering around the surroundings. Coming out of the Born Centre Cultural, and going onto Paseo del Born pedestrian street, you can marvel at the essence of Gothic Barcelona. If you cross Carrer Montcada, where the Picasso museum is found, you’ll reach the Fossar de les Moreres memorial square. In the fossar (pit or cemetery), we can find a war memorial in memory of those who died during the siege of the city of Barcelona in 1714. On another note, the construction of the Santa María del Mar church was the inspiration for Ildefonso Falcones' bestseller, La iglesia del Mar (Cathedral of the Sea).
